Summary
Having a Homepage Tile for each Insights dashboard can lead to cluttered homepages and repeated clicking back and forth between the PeopleSoft application and Insights Dashboards.
As an alternative, we can place multiple Insights Dashboards in a Fluid Navigation Collection. This may be a better way for your users to access multiple different dashboards without creating a forest of tiles. Though PeopleSoft built this functionality to place Insights Dashboards in WorkCenters, Fluid Navigation Collections are a quicker, simpler configuration if the advanced capabilities of a WorkCenter is not needed.

Scope
The scope of this tutorial is only to demonstrate how to display Insights Dashboards inside a Fluid Navigation Collection. How to create data, visualizations and dashboards is beyond this scope.
Building Your Dashboards
There is nothing different when building a dashboard targeted for a Navigation Collection.
- Create Insights Dashboard
- Import Insights Dashboard into PeopleSoft
- Assign the Dashboard Roles
- Configure Insights Dashboards
- Deploy Insights Dashboards
Setting the Stage
For this demo, I have copied three PeopleSoft delivered Insights Dashboards into new names. The three new dashboards are named:
- PT3 Application Details
- PT3 Document Insights
- PT3 Team Document Insights

I imported the Dashboards into PeopleSoft

I Assigned Dashboard Roles

Configure Insights Dashboards
We need a Content Reference (CRef) for the Dashboard to use in a Navigation Collection.
To create a CRef for the Dashboard:
Navigation:
Home > PeopleTools > Search Framework > Administration > Configure Insights Dashboards
Click on the “Insights” tab at the top of the page
- Add a row to the grid by clicking on any of the “+” buttons on right side of the grid
- In the “Portal Object Name” column, Create a name for the CRef, No spaces or special characters
- In the “Dashboard Name” column, click on the magnifying glass and find your new dashboard.
- Finaly, in the Portal Label column, add a label your users will see in the application

Deploy the Dashboards
Deploy the dashboards using the Deploy Insights Dashboards page.

Create the Navigation Collection
Navigation: Home > PeopleTools > Portal > Portal Utilities > Manage Navigation Collections
Click on “Add Collection”

Fill out the Collection Properties. Ensure you to give it an Owner ID at the bottom of the Properties group box.

At the bottom of the page click on the top level folder created when you filled out the “Name” field in the Collection Properties. Add Folders as needed to help organized your dashboards in the collection. Remember to actively click on the higher folder you want this new folder to sort under before clicking on the “Add Folder” button.

In the “Add Folder” dialog box, add a folder label and image if desired.

At the bottom of the page, you can adjust where this folder appears in the tree

These values can be changed later by editing the folder.
Select and highlight the folder you want to add your first Insights Dashboard. Then click the “Add Link” button

In the “Add Link” Dialog Box, type the CRef (Portal Object Name) you created on the Configure Dashboard page. Tab out and you will see the label from the “Portal Label” column.

This is all we need to do here. Click the “OK” button at the bottom of the page to return to the Navigation Collections main page.

Repeat for all the other Dashboards you want to add to the Navigation Collection.
Click the “Save” button ad the bottom of the page.
Create a Tile for the Navigation Collection
To use the Fluid Navigation Collection as a Tile on a home page, we need to create that tile.
Lucky for us, PeopleSoft’s Tile Wizard will do everything we need to create and configure our Tile, for users to access the Navigation Collection:
Navigation: Home > PeopleTools > Portal > Tile Wizard
On the Tile Wizard Page, Click the “Create new Tile” button at the top of the page

On the Basic Information Page, add the tile name and title. Then click Next

- Select “Navigation Collection” as the Data Type.
- A Collection Name field will appear. Find your Navigation Collection from the lookup
- The Navigation Collection Type field will appear. Choose “Navigation Collection – Optimized” from the drop-down menu
- The Navigation Panel Collapsible check box will appear. Choose if you want the left navigation panel on the collection to be collapsible or fixed
- below is a screenshot of my configuration
- Click Next

On the “Target Page Information” page
- Update the Target Page Name if you want something more meaningful
- Add a description
- Set the owner ID

- Set the Sequence Number
- Click Next
