Why Update an Existing Dashboard?

Business requirements are always in flux.   Users request new visualizations to better tell the story in their data.   At the same time, some visualizations may no longer be relevant or used by the users.   Let’s update an existing Insights dashboard by adding new visualizations and removing those we no longer need.

Add Visualizations to an Existing Dashboard

In Insights, navigate to your dashboard and click on the edit link in the upper right corner

Click on the Add Link.

In the Add Popup menu, begin typing the name of the new visualization.  The visualization list will filter as you type.

Click on a visualization’s link to add it.   Repeat for any other visualizations you want to add.

The new visualizations are now at the bottom of your dashboard.   Close the dialog box to arrange them.

To move a visualization, drag it by its title bar.   To resize it, use the size control in its bottom right corner.

Update or Remove Visualization Titles

Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of your new visualization to expose the customization menu.  Click on the Edit Title link.

To change the title, type in the new title.   To hide it, disable the “Show Panel Title” control.

Click Save to close the dialog box.

When all changes are complete, save the dashboard.

Done Adding

Our dashboard is updated with the new visualizations and available to the users.   Next, let’s remove a visualization we no longer need.

Removing a Visualization from an Existing Dashboard

Open your dashboard and click on the edit link in the upper right corner

Find the visualization to be removed and click on the gear icon in the upper right corner.

Click on the “…More” link at the bottom of the dialog box

An extended dialog box appears.

Click on the “Remove from Dashboard” link.

Cleanup

The visualization is removed from the dashboard.

Adjust the remaining visualizations’ size and location to better use the dashboard space for your users.   When all changes are complete, save the dashboard.   We’ve now added new visualizations and removed one we no longer need.
