Save Error

If you spend any time building PeopleSoft Insights Visualizations, you will get a “Error on Saving” eventually.

Looking closer

At the very least, this is frustrating.  At worst, you just lost a lot of work.

The Problem

The most likely problem is that your web browser cache is out of sync with the Insights servers.

It could also be caused by heavy loads on the Insights and OpenSearch servers such as a large ingestion of data or the servers running at max capacity serving dashboards to your users.

Another situation that may cause an error is if someone updated, changed or deleted the Index Pattern you’re currently using in a visualization.

First Fix Attempt

Refresh your browser page using the browser’s refresh button.  Then attempt to save again.

This only works about 20% of the time.   However, if this is successful, you probably didn’t lose any work.

Second Fix Attempt

If you still receive a Save Error after refreshing your browser, the next step is to clear your browser’s cache.

Make sure you exit your PeopleSoft session and choose the time range of “All Time” or whatever your specific browser has that means everything for all time.  Not just the past hour or few days.

Usually, this works.   You can continue to edit and save.

The downside of this method is that you probably lost all your changes since the last time you saved your work.

Final Fix Attempt

There is a small chance that the second method did not fix the problem, and you are still getting Save Errors.

The final attempt is to have the Admins bounce the Insights and OpenSearch servers and have them clear the cache on those.

Save Early, Save Often

I have just gotten into the habit of saving my work often when creating visualizations.

Save right away after the initial creation and the subsequent saves are just a two-button dance.

This won’t stop the save errors, but it will minimize the work lost.
